Vaccine transportation with cold chain compliance

We transport vaccines at +2…+8 °C (and deep-frozen down to −70 °C) in our own SafePack thermal containers, with the cold chain controlled along the whole route. We aim to deliver each batch fit for use, and the temperature record shows whether the mode was kept.

About SafePack thermal containers

Vaccines are immunobiological products that are sensitive to both heat and freezing. A break in the cold chain at even one link can make a batch unusable, and sometimes unsafe. That is why vaccine transportation takes place only within a set temperature range, with control along the whole route and documented confirmation of the mode.

BIOCARD maintains the cold chain with its own equipment rather than with promises: we make SafePack thermal containers ourselves, fit them with SmartSensor temperature loggers, store cargo at a Class A warehouse and deliver with our own fleet. The first shipments of the Sputnik V vaccine in 2020 were made in our thermal containers. Delivering health!

Which vaccines we transport

We work with all groups of vaccines and immunobiological products — in the main +2…+8 °C mode and, for temperature-sensitive ones, deep-frozen at −70 °C on dry ice.

Preventive vaccines

Routine and seasonal vaccines (influenza, hepatitis and others) — a stable +2…+8 °C mode along the whole route, from the warehouse to the vaccination point.

Immunobiological products

Sera, immunoglobulins, toxoids and allergens. We select the range specified by the manufacturer and record the conditions with a temperature logger.

mRNA and viral vector vaccines

Temperature-sensitive products that need freezing at −20 °C or deep freezing on dry ice. We ship them on dry ice in boxes tested for holding the temperature mode.

Veterinary vaccines

Immunobiological products for veterinary use, with the same cold chain control. Read more: veterinary products transport.

Vaccines for clinical trials

Investigational products and kits for trial sites. We have handled clinical trial logistics since 2007, with our own customs clearance.

Vaccine export and import

International routes: China → Russia and the UAE / Gulf countries, with customs clearance by our own broker since 2013.

How we maintain the vaccine cold chain

We work to keep every link of the route under our control, so the +2…+8 °C mode is less likely to break at handovers between contractors.

1

A SafePack thermal container for the vaccine’s temperature mode

Our own production. We select the container and cool packs for +2…+8 °C (or freezing). Selected validated PCM configurations of SafePack hold the required range for up to 96 hours without external power under their specified test conditions. Confirm suitability for the model, load and route before shipping. The containers are registered as a medical device.

2

A SmartSensor logger travels with the batch

Our own IoT logger records temperature, humidity, shocks and light (light shows whether the package was opened).

3

We record the temperature along the whole route

Readings are taken through receivers in our vehicles and at warehouses, by a courier’s phone or with the app. You can see the shipment at control points, and the logger’s record covers the whole route.

4

A report instead of words

The temperature report — a PDF with the graph, for your quality department — is kept in the request card in your personal account (Files tab) once it is attached to the order. The required mode is written into the contract, and we are responsible for the temperature inside our SafePack thermal container — that is how liability is arranged.

Case: the first Sputnik V shipments

In 2020 the first batches of the Sputnik V vaccine were shipped in SafePack thermal containers of our own production — a cargo that leaves no room for a single temperature error. The largest batch was 42,000 doses of Sputnik V for Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

Frequently asked questions about vaccine transportation

At what temperature do you transport vaccines?

Our main mode for transporting vaccines is +2…+8 °C (chilled vaccines and most immunobiological products). Temperature-sensitive mRNA and viral vector vaccines are shipped frozen, at −20 or −70 °C on dry ice. We maintain the mode along the whole route; the sensor record shows whether it was kept.

What happens if the power is cut or the vehicle is stuck in traffic?

SafePack containers do not need an external power supply. Their validated holding time depends on the model, coolant layout, load and test conditions; selected +2…+8 °C configurations hold the range for up to 96 hours. A route delay must still be assessed against the agreed holding time; ask your manager about contingency arrangements for your shipment.

How is temperature controlled during vaccine shipping, and how will I know the mode was kept?

A SmartSensor logger travels with the batch and records temperature, humidity, shocks and light along the whole route, so its record shows whether the mode was kept. The temperature report is kept in the request card in your personal account (Files tab) once it is attached to the order.

Can I send a single box of vaccines?

Yes, we accept shipments from a single package. For non-urgent batches, groupage temperature-controlled transport on a schedule is cheaper.

Do you deliver vaccines across Russia and internationally?

Yes. We deliver vaccines across Russia, from Kaliningrad to the Far East, with seven regular groupage routes. Internationally, we cover China → Russia and the UAE / Gulf countries.

How much does vaccine transportation cost?

Under the 2026 courier tariff, a shipment up to 20 kg from Moscow and the Moscow Region within the Central Ring Road costs RUB 2 513 within Moscow, RUB 4 121 to Saint Petersburg and RUB 10 511 to Novosibirsk, excluding VAT. The price includes a SafePack thermal container, a temperature logger and cargo insurance up to RUB 3 million. Heavier shipments and optional services carry the published surcharges. Use the delivery calculator for your city and shipment dimensions.

Send the origin and destination, cargo description, required temperature, piece count, actual weight and outer dimensions. You can ask a question or get an estimate before formal onboarding. The domestic delivery calculator uses the published Russian tariff; international routes, storage and special handling are quoted for the actual task.

Under the public transport offer, acceptance is signed through electronic document exchange before the first transport order. A registration link is then sent to the email in the acceptance, and orders are placed in the client account. If you have no electronic signature or need different contract terms, the manager agrees the contract route. Storage is arranged separately. How to start working with BIOCARD →

Equipment is selected for the cargo, route and conditions. The stated holding time of up to 96 hours applies to selected tested SafePack configurations; it is not a guarantee for every model, load or dry-ice shipment. The manager can provide the test report for the relevant model and range by email. Temperature reports in the client account are available once attached to the order.
